Ice Fishing (All Species)

Few outdoor winter experiences can compare with watching the sun rise across a frozen lake while in pursuit of a trophy trout or enjoying the sun set while waiting for a big Cusk to take your line.  After a day on the ice with us, you will have a whole new appreciation for the word “FLAG”!  Ice fishing is one of our favorite classes for families and individuals.  Come along with us and learn the secrets used by our licensed guides at the Great North Woods Guide Service.  For hardcore fishermen, we recommend fishing for Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout and Cusk.  For great table fare and fast action for the kids (and adults), nothing beats fishing for Perch, Crappie, Bass, and Pickerel.

We use the latest ice fishing technology, and provide nice warm bob houses to keep you comfortable all day.  Sit back in one of our easy chairs with a jig rod in one hand and hot coffee in the other.  After a day on the ice, sleeping well is guaranteed!

You will learn:

  • Ice fishing safety and equipment
  • Warm and cold water fish identification and biology
  • Location and water depth considerations for each fish
  • Bait selection for each species
  • Various fish traps technology
  • Rods/reels and lures for ice fishing
  • Ice auger usage
  • Setting your tip-ups
  • Hooking techniques for getting your fish above the ice
  • Proper clothing and footwear
